E-TEF Canada is directed to candidates who want to assess their level of proficency in French for immigration applications to Canada, or Québec, or for Canadian citizenship application. It is recognized by Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) and the Ministry of Immigration and Cultural Communities (MICC) in Québec as an official proof of language proficiency. It is an assessment and proof of your French language proficiency at the time you take the test, and it is valid for two years.

Anyone can sit for E-TEF Canada to get a proof of language proficiency in French. You can take the test at Alliance Française de Lagos, whether you took French classes at Alliance or not.
It is compulsory to strictly follow the registration process & deadlines as well as the rules and regulations of Alliance Française de Lagos. The test is computer-based. During the test, 4 modules will evaluate your level of proficiency in oral and written skills:
Compréhension écrite (reading): 60 minutes – 40 questions – 300 points
Compréhension orale (listening): 40 minutes – 40 questions – 360 points
Expression écrite (writing): 60 minutes – 2 topics – 450 points
Expression orale (speaking): 15 minutes – 2 topics – 450 points
The level of proficiency is assessed on a 7 level scale : from 0 for most basic skills to 6 for complete fluency. These levels corresponds to the A1 to C2 levels of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFRL) which are also the levels in use for french classes at Alliance Française de Lagos. It’s also equivalent to the 12 levels of the Canadian Language Benchmarks (CLB). The higher your level in French is at the time you take the test, the higher you’ll score at E-TEF.

For additional tutoring, candidates with a B1 Intermediate Level can register for private preparatory classes which come in 5 hour and 10 hour packages respectively. These preparatory classes can be held online or in person according to personal preference. For E-TEF Canada, your certificate includes the number of points you obtained for each of the tested skills. Next to this number appears your European level (A1 -> C2). However, the Canadian immigration body has a sharper scale with 12 levels (from 1 to 12), and they use this system to evaluate your immigration file. For each evaluated skill, you will receive a number of points, out of a maximum. This number of points equals a CERF level that is also stated on your certificate.
Certificates for E-TEF Canada are sent by email. Ensure you provide a functional email through which you desire to receive the soft copy of your certificate on your registration form.
Yes, but only once, and it is a chargeable service. It can only be requested from the CCIP.

We can provide you a certificate stating that you will be setting for your exam on a particular day and hours.
Absolutely! There is no obligation stating that you must sit for your exam in the country you live in.
Except the speaking skill which is recorded here (and evaluated in Paris), all the other sections are sent to France and corrected there. We basically cannot give you a formal answer about this matter, because it depends on the time of the year, and the number of sessions in other countries too. CCIP informs that it generally takes between 4 and 6 weeks for the results to be sent directly to candidates by email.
If you cannot make it due to illness, unannounced professional reasons, death of a loved-one, the candidate shall present a documentary proof to Alliance Française de Lagos; medical certificate, employer certificate… The possibility to register for a later date does not depend solely on the AF, but on the CCIP that will examine your case.
Yes, it is! However, the candidate must wait for 30 days before sitting for the second test. Otherwise, the CCIP will not be able to accept you as a candidate.
Both Canadian and French immigration bodies require that you provide one and only one certificate reference number. This is the reason why you have to sit for all the sections again.
E-TEF Canada is not a short-term project. It requires time to get prepared in order to obtain a sufficient score for your immigration application project. We recommend an intermediate/upper intermediate level in French (B1/B2) to take the E-TEF and obtain satisfactory results: Alliance Française de Lagos cannot be held accountable if a candidate does not reach her or his targeted level / score.
